Healthy Sleeping Tips from your Daytona Apartments

When was the last time you woke up at your Daytona apartments and felt completely rested? Unfortunately, a lot of people go to bed and wake up the next day without feeling like they were able to recharge. There are a lot of factors that go into this, but there are also a lot of steps you can to take to improve the quality of your sleep.

In this week’s blog post, we’ll be telling residents how to fall asleep faster, stay asleep long, and get higher quality sleep throughout the night. The tips in this post are meant to be used as habits, not just one time things. Since sleep is something you do every day, the steps you take to improve your sleep have to be taken every day.

Get in the habit of journaling and meditating before bed

You’ve probably this advice time and time again, but looking at screens right before you fall asleep can seriously mess with the quality of your sleep. It’s hard to get yourself to stop watching Netflix or stop working on your laptop before bed, but if you can do it, you’ll notice a dramatic increase in the quality of your sleep.

We recommend putting a screenless buffer between your screen time and your sleep time. One way to do that is by meditating for 10 minutes with your eyes closed then writing about your day in an actual notebook with an actual pen. Try it for a week and see if your sleep doesn’t improve!

Wake up earlier

This might sound a little counter-intuitive, but by waking up earlier (and possibly getting a workout in) you can reset your sleep schedule to align with when you actually want to go to bed. Exercising in the morning is better than exercising at night because our core body temperatures lower when our bodies are trying to fall asleep. Working out raises your body temperature, and if you do that at night, it will be harder for your body to cool back down again in time for bed. Yes, it will be super hard for a week. No, you won’t like it. That being said, the payoff is being tired at night when it’s time to go to sleep, and spending less time lying awake in bed.

Don’t toss and turn

If you’re trying to fall asleep, you’re not sleeping. The moment you notice yourself tossing and turning and generally feeling unable to fall asleep, turn on a light and read a book or magazine instead. It’s no use trying to fall asleep when you’re not in the right mindset to do so, but getting up and doing something else (besides using a screen) can help you get in the right mindset.
